Insurance quote validity
Discussion
My stepson is impatiently waiting to pick up a car in a private sale. He got an insurance quote for the car last week and it is saved for when he picks up the car. The hold up is waiting for the arrival of the V5 as the current owner is removing a personal registration number and the car will revert to its original number. My stepson is beginning to panic that when he goes to insure the car, hopefully tomorrow, his saved quote will be invalid because the registration number has changed and the premium will be significantly increased. Does anybody have any first hand experience of this scenario or any advice to ensure his original quoted price is still valid? Does it need a phone call to the insurer or is there some internet wizardry that negates sitting in a phone queue trying to get the car insured?

It's the same car so why would the premium suddenly go up?
Why not buy the policy now? Problem solved. Not that there is likely to be a problem.
Sounds like a good solution, he may need to then pay an 'admin fee' of £25 or so to change the reg number although some are £0...Why not buy the policy now? Problem solved. Not that there is likely to be a problem.
Either that or pick up the phone and speak to a human
