Hi all, I'm very close to buying a 2020 golf and and when checking the website shows a tick on the service history. After reserving the vehicle and booking a test drive I realised I could go further into what it shows and the service history only shows that it's been done once it's reached the dealers garage. It's only had one previous owner.

Obviously it's possible but I find it hard to believe someone would buy a brand new car and never get it serviced in 3 years of ownership. Generally brand new cars are PCP or lease. I'd have thought it very odd that you wouldn't service a car in that situation.
I know most cars don't come with a service book now, so how do you find out a car's service history if it's been done at various places and not just the main dealer it was bought from?

The service data is often held on the car’s electronic record held by the manufacturer and accessed by dealers.

If you are buying from a manufacturer franchise, they should be able to give you mileage, dates and types of service.

Some manufacturers like JLR will sell you a subscription to their system where amongst other things, you can see servicing and also what warranty work has been done.

What's the mileage?

It's also possible that it missed an early service due to covid lockdowns.

As it's a Golf... what's the reg, I'll be able to tell you if it's had any digital history uploaded into the system?
