Stupidly caught a low bollard in car park, all my fault.

Damage to lower cill etc.

Anyway, will call insurers in morning to claim as I doubt will be cheap.

Anyway, in that claim, is it possible to claim other damage as the front bumper has cracked paintwork (not caused by this incident, only noticed this other damage it the other day)? I.e. wrap both damage into one claim?

Never claimed on car insurance before so all new to me..,.

No it’ll be two separate claims unless it happened in the same incident.

OK fair do’s.

I have just found out that the sill can be bought for <£200 (for some reason I thought it would be whole sill and side/rear panel biggrin), so cost to replace that and paint up is possibly going to be less than excess! biggrin

Will check with local specialist/bodyshop to see what cost would be to fix and then take it from there.

Don't forget the increased premiums for the next 5 years (10-20% across all cars you own) in your calculation, which you will have to declare.

Tell me one insurance company that doesn't increase your premium in the following years, when you make a fault claim.

Probably.

When it goes in you could try and ask the bodyshop doing the work if they would also fix that and you pay for that repair separately.

I did that the other year when a branch falling off a tree left a big dent and cracked the paint next to the windscreen a week before my car went in to get damage on the rear quarter fixed. Was surprisingly cheap, but guess if they are already ordering paint and prepping the car etc it's overall less work than two separate repairs.

Not sure if all places would allow it but they had no issue at all.

We are with LV, no increase in premium despite a claim. Obviously it depends on an individual's circumstances and history, but it is not an automatic occurrence.

what car is it, and how extensive is the damage? if its on the cheaper side of things, insurers seem to like declaring cars as CAT N for fun these days, so think carefully before making any claim.

i'd say any car worth less than £5k is at a real risk of being written off for ANY damage, no matter how minor.

Got a cost and not much more than excess so will just get it repaired (car is worth a fair bit so worth fixing!).

Not having claimed on ins before, wasn't sure what was acceptable and what not etc...

Thanks all.

Your premium might have gone down without a claim
