I’ve a 5 door 2019 BMW 120i. At motorway speeds, I’ve noticed excessive road noise from the rear passenger door. The noise is notably lower on the other side.

The door closes and locks without any issues, but it does have a .5cm give / rebound when closed.

The dealer suggests the road noise is normal (which it isn’t if you compare one side of the rear seats to the another). However, he’s noticed the door movement but has no comment on it right now, save that it closes as it should.

Any thoughts?

Im sure that the door will have ways to make adjustments for fitment issues. Same as a kitchen cupboard would.
A proper body shop rather than garage will fix it easily.

Maybe someone has tried to get in by pulling the door frame out. Does it have manual rear winders or is that not a thing anymore.

Check everything on each side in comparison. Seals, latch, striker, gaps, flushness - the rebound difference between each side especially. That last bit will be a latch/striker issue, so compare opposing sides carefully. After that, get to a reputable bodyshop. It does not sound anything wrong with the sheet metal in its self, just a dodgy latch mechanism. It needs an expert look though.
