'Most dynamic Taycan of all time' due next week
Porsche has been hyping the Tesla Model S Plaid slayer for months - is this its first 1,000hp EV?

Porsche ensured the car world was made to feel properly awake in the first week of January with confirmation that a new Taycan had lapped the Nordschleife in 7:07.55. A phenomenally fast time for any kind of car, let alone a two-tonne saloon. Now Porsche has announced when we’ll know everything about its latest EV: 1pm GMT, Monday 11th March.
The manufacturer is promising this will be ‘the most dynamic Taycan of all time’, which had already sort of been sussed by the lap time, but is nice to make doubly sure of. Unsurprisingly, the details are being kept firmly under wraps till next week, with only a moody silhouette with this update showing some fixed aero devices: there’s an extended front splitter hiding in the dark as well as the more obvious rear wing.
Since Porsche announced that it had broken the EV lap record, there has of course been the reveal of the standard Taycan to guide our thinking. Specifically the Turbo S, all 938hp and 808lb ft of it, which this car must be derived from. And while there’s not a comparable car in the range currently, the last time Porsche went destroying lap records with something unexpected it was the Cayenne Turbo GT - and that was significantly more powerful - as well as more dynamic - than the Turbo it was based on.
Probably not unreasonable then to expect more power from the new Taycan, alongside the aero enhancements and what is likely to be an overhauled chassis. Especially as it can count cars like the 1,234hp Lucid Air Sapphire and Tesla Model S Plaid (with 1,020hp) amongst its rivals. Not long now before we know for certain!
I like engines (and have some proper ones in my cars) but also like my Taycan. A lot.
Surely it’s possible to like petrol and electricity???

I would have a Taycan, just short of the 45 grand or more to get into one, and there are a few other ICE cars I fancy as well but I bet they are a lovely thing to tool around in, couple of the neighbours have them.
Suppose the problem is that there 800 plus Taycans hanging round like XL Bully puppies needing a home at the moment, there is a gulf between the first, usually company owners and what private punters can A, afford and B are happy to take on given the perceived (if not actual) risks and the normal downsides.
They will start moving more quickly (selling, they already move pretty fast) I feel, when they drop into the mid/high thirties and given there is a new one that should push prices downward a bit more.
I think Porsche are also stuck with a few, saw a youtuber trying to buy a GT3 RS and to get one they wanted to buy 3 170k ish Taycan Turbo S's, mad that such a lovely car is used by Porsche as kind of a wooden spoon, booby prize, obligation, obstacle or whatever you want to call it.

If this has say 1000bhp....so what the next model S will likely have 1200 etc and most people won't take a 2 ton EV to the Nring. All of these EVs seem to solve a problem people don't have.
Clear marketing about range, charge times, how much range is left after 30k 50k 100k etc. Would actually help.
Also looking at PH today 2 articles on old cars an Alfa and Merc which you can drive. Will a 30 year old Tycan just be landfill

We're living in a strange world where not agreeing with someone is automatically negativity, trolling, hate speech and most like some sort of phobia too.

The rest of the car is also mostly recycled these days at the ATF. The days of scrap yards covering acres of land with rusting cars or being crushed prior to ending up in landfill are gone, apparently.
I bet that most of the Alfa GTV6s that were made rusted into the water table many years ago and the lovely example on PH is one of the surviving minority.
Obviously it’s a halo car designed to sell the lower models of Taycans or other EV Porsches so don’t need to sell many.
Be interesting to see how Porsche tries to markets this as either the ultimate daily driver or more will it be a track car.

PH seems to be awash with Luddites. Embrace the change to EV as we clearly can’t live with ICE forever. Is EV the right move? It is, for now.
Will we freely accept and embrace further change when another fuel source is found?
Very much doubt it.
Their customer satisfaction survey has a question along the lines of "did your Porsche representative create a personal relationship with you?"

It's so creepy and it's all designed to put the relationship on the footing that you'll do more for a friend than a business relationship which means you spend more money and are more accepting when they treat you badly, for example your cooling fans on your £150k taycan are broken but its not a warranty item because you didn't clean them (despite the fact they are in the wheel arch and as such get covered in crud from the road and you can't access them because for most people they don't routinely remove the wheels to clean the car). I think they're around £1k each too.
The beating heart of an ICE car is it engine, take that away and what's really left...
Which do you really want to drive around the 'Ring, Taycan or a 911? Or, look at it another way, 1200 bhp from electric motors or 600bhp from a 8000rpm V12. The answer is a no-brainer I reckon.
k and is cheap (in the US) for the performance on offer. The Lucid Air Sapphire is quite a different prospect... much more expensive but seems to universally be considered an absolutely amazing car. This Taycan is going to have to be very good indeed to better it!Forums | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
