Why the need for justification?
Discussion
Let's start with me...
My car is a Wrangler Rubicon and I love the thing. Do I expect everyone else to?...nope. Would I be bothered with any criticisms ref the engine, the practicality, the mpg, build quality or any other things they're not supposed to be good at?....nope.
I buy my cars for me and to be honest not really fussed on others thoughts on them, the main thing is I enjoy them.
Which leads me to the main question.
EV drivers...why do they spend page after page of defending their choice of car and it's drivetrain? Any criticism and it's like someone's pissed on a wasps nest.
Does it really matter what anyone thinks of someones choice of car?

Does it really matter in the real world ? - no of course not.
Does it matter on PH ? - of course it does.
EV’s are of no interest to me or my wife but I get why some might like them.
Down the line quite a few years and battery issues and then potential landfill issues might be why some feel the need to defend perhaps ?
Hopefully our various V engined cars plus a boring old 4 cylinder Classic Defender will see our driving needs out though.

Is it just me or is the OP grumbling about something whilst doing exactly that thing, albeit with the normal PH veneer of "I'm cool with whatever - you thing..."
I'm afraid he isn't.He's asking a genuine question which ought to appear as such....unless the reader lacks basic common sense of course?
Will never forget my late brother in law getting a Wrangler Sahara in the nineties, he was so happy with it until folk kept saying how the Wrangler was a bit of a gay icon, certainly back then it was favoured by gay men, and then a program called "Queer as folk" arrived on our screens about Gay men in Manchester and the lead character had a Wrangler
He sold it, I wouldn't have been bothered, never considered that an insult, point being, if you like it, dont feel the need to justify it to anyone else. Any criticism is generally down to jealousy in a lot of cases, either about buying something or being secure enough in yourself to buy what you want, not what you think you should have.

Spot on.

Agree. But the EV justification is usually centred around how cheap it is to run.
Fine if that's what's important to the individual of course.
I appreciate that but I can't understand the need for the justification.Fine if that's what's important to the individual of course.
Why not just drive what we want to without having to justify our choices?

They would probably really love to drive an Elise or F40 everyday but the reality of their personal limitations is brought out.
Of course, some may actually care about city centre emissions..

End of the day, we all drove what we want within our financial means and place in life. We can't and shouldn't try to impact others' views or choices.

I don't give a monkeys what people drive - and I love those jeeps and remember Queer As Folk - what a great show that was.
Just some of the flannel about EVs from those who have usually never owned or driven them should be questioned I think, if we are going to have a serious adult conversation, otherwise it is just Daily Mail shouting at clouds stuff.
(45k miles in my tesla. Cheap as chips. Never queued for a charger or had it set fire to my house.
70k Boxster S & 60k MX5 too)

That's what most people do. However, people who use forums tend to seek validation and approval for any decision they make and, if they don't get that, they'll then try and justify their choices. Why not just drive what we want to without having to justify our choices?
It's not just about cars, you'll see the same for things like watches, tvs, computers, and virtually anything where there's a choice. More obvious when it's binary though, like ICE vs EV, or Apple vs Windows.

Yeah, we pinched a name from that for our third child, re watched it a couple of years ago, brilliant stuff. I really wanted to be gay for a time, just couldn't get the whole not fancying men thing

I chip in on the odd EV thread just because there is so much uninformed opinion masquerading as fact.

Same here, there is so much BS regarding EV's on the internet, i have driven 2 EV and hated them but that is me and my choice i drive a diseasel and a petrol. but i buy the car i want not what everyone else thinks you should own.
My personal opinion is the amount of BS put out from the gvmt and retailers about performance runnnig costs etc really puts me off but each to their oown

We simply don't need another one of these threads to be honest. You get EV angelists and ICE equivalents. The long and short of it is, people love to argue.
