One of the neighbours from down the road has started parking outside my house (no issue as I know there’s nothing I can do). I normally put my car on the road when I need to get my car out the garage, so did this yesterday morning parked behind the neighbours car.

I saw the neighbour come out, get in her car, and reverse straight into my car to get out of the space. She must have hit it at about 5mph bumper to bumper. She stopped and got out, but by the time I got out of the house she was driving off. As she had to turn around before leaving the cul de sac I stopped her. She said I should have left her more room and won’t provide insurance details. Didn’t seem bothered and drove off.

Fortunately there is very little damage (cracked number plate) and it was my shed so not bothered anyway. I don’t want to risk my insurance going up, and have nothing really to claim for, but surely driving off was illegal. Considering the lack of damage I’ll probably leave it, but don’t like how she just shrugged her shoulders and drove off. What would you do? I don’t have any camera footage so she could just deny it.

Driving off isn't illegal unless you're lying on the floor because she drove into you.

Also, she's the reason with that stty broken brain why I prefer sheds to nice cars.

I'd just leave it but probably make it difficult for her to park there in future eg by parking your shed there.

Yeah I'd be furious, but, realistically there isn't much you can do that isn't going to be a whole lot of effort and energy for very little outcome.

Tempting to give her car a cheeky little shunt every now and then though...

Drive into it harder and if questioned either deny all knowledge or tell her she should have bought a more visible car.

Had similar happen to me a few years ago. Old guy hit my car, drove off, tried to deny all knowledge when he came back (in spite of having tried to polish out a few scratches from his bumper that exactly lined up with the damage to my car).

Go over again later when she's had time to think about it, point out that it is an offence to not give details (not that you need them because your insurers will be able to get them anyway), and suggest that maybe she'd like to just by you a new place/fix any damage?

I think I know what I’d do if she ‘didn’t leave me enough room’ next time she parks there.

biggrin

"Sorry, you should have left more room." while eyeing the massive dent in her door.

Just roll your car gently up against her car next time she is there. Perhaps make sure she is there too.

If not, put bricks under her front wheels too. smile

Not so…they have surely committed offences under both the Road Traffic Act 1988 section 170 subsection 2 (failure to stop) and subsection 3 (failure to report).

Trying to prove it or getting a copper to take you seriously for such minor damage would make it all irrelevant.

Replace your number plate and put the bill/receipt through her door.
Very unlikely she will pay it, but will stress her out.

Lock angry seagull in the car, and a couple of sardines in the heater intake.
