Restomods you’d like to see?

We seem to have seen numerous 911 restomods, the stratos recreation, the tolman 205 gti and now the more restoration xr3. The Dutch company have done an outstanding job with the integrale, prodrive their Impreza and alfaholics juniors are also lovely. Mst mk1 and 2 are maybe more than a restomod but are still basically huge improvements on the originals. My question being, what halo cars from the past are calling out for a quality updating ?

Mk1 Mr2. Never owned one but a mate had a few in a short space of time as the small end bearings kept letting go due to the amount of fun we had in them. I'm an average pace driving enthusiast and the amount of fun possible in those wee cars was way out of proportion to their cost or the size of the engine, could genuinely drive them sideways all night on a cool damp autumn evening.

I'm with you there but personally I would love to see the Mk2 SW20 MR2 resto-modded. Such a cool looking car.wc98 said:

How modern do you want your restomod?I have an '86 mk1 MR2 into which I fitted the engine / gearbox / lsd from a '98 JDM Corolla.
It's only about 160 bhp, but that's enough for a sub 1 tonne car.
You have to work it hard to get the most out of it (peak power is 7,800 rpm), and it won't keep up with anything modern and turbocharged, but it's a load of fun on a twisty road.

For me Mk2 Fiesta with current ST engine etc, i think if done right it would be a great idea

I was thinking Capri, but a MK1, decent but not ridiculous power, better brakes and suspension, possibly independent rear suspension, largely original with Rostyle wheels or something made from alloy thats wider but has that style but not massively taller rim as I find that a lot of these cars get spoilt with stupidly large wheels. Finish it off with a sumptuous interior trimmed in materials that arent Vinyl but keep the original look. Engine wise, maybe an NA V6 so its in keeping, Mercedes M272 could work, Maybe the Jag 3.0 V6 from the S Type that gets used in MX5 conversions, manual gearbox.
I think its easy to go overboard and create a sort of Mini Mustang, aping the side stripes of a Shelby and all that, nah, its a Capri, or go for too much power, 250/300 would be more than enough in a ton of pretty old car.

I'd like to restomod one of the early (TA22) Celicas.
They're vaguely reminiscent of a 3/4 scale Mustang.
Nothing too outrageous - 200 hp would be adequate in such a light car, 250 would be plenty, and allow for some extra sound deadening etc.
I'd keep it a 4 cyl, there are plenty to choose from in that power range.
