£110k Maserati Grecale Folgore on sale now
New Macan EV not interesting enough? Try the 550hp Maserati alternative
The electrification of Maserati continues apace. Following the arrival of the GranTurismo Folgore last month, now it’s the turn of the Grecale SUV. Which is where it really counts, of course; 200mph, £180k supercars are all well and good for sprinkling some fairy dust on the showroom floor, but it seems like everyone is looking for some kind of electric SUV right now. Or at least that's the bet most high-end manufacturers have made. Maserati needs the Grecale EV to sell well - just as Porsche will want the same for its incoming battery-powered Macan.
The Folgore certainly goes into that duel - and likely many others it will face - with a healthy set of stats. The £109,905 Grecale musters 550hp and 605lb ft, so it slots between the 408hp Macan 4 and 639hp Macan Turbo, nudging that bit closer to the flagship model. The 0-62mph time is 4.1 seconds (against 3.3 for a Turbo, or 5.1 for a 4), with up to 311 miles claimed from a full 105kWh tank. Maserati hasn’t yet released a charging speed, which usually means it doesn’t want to disclose it, though 20-80 per cent can apparently take as little as 29 minutes. For comparison (and if you’re racing at the services), the Porsche is rated at 270kW DC, meaning a best-case scenario of 10-80 per cent in 21 minutes.
There’s only one Grecale Folgore specification available, which makes a nice change, and it comes with air suspension, a 14-speaker Sonus faber sound system, 14-way heated and cooled electric front seats, three-zone climate control and a ‘customisable digital cockpit’. 19-inch wheels are standard, with up to 21s available, and a Folgore will be distinguishable from the rest of the range with copper details outside as well its own grille and diffuser design.
With the Folgore on sale in the UK now, the first cars are expected in June. For the asking price, buyers will get a Maserati wallbox thrown in, plus this Grecale launches the brand’s new online reservation tool that will bump you up the queue for a refundable fee. Expect an inevitable twin test with that Porsche later in the year.

Had to smile and nod and pretend to be interested, particularly when he fired it up to give us a listen.
The continued onslaught of 2t+ electric SUVs and supersaloons and automation just makes me ever less interested in new cars.
Its as if they've just added 50% to the RRP to make them a premium+ offering without the relevant substance.

One of my few regrets in life is not buying a Merak when they were £13k. I thought a £7k Esprit was a more restrained decision. The bills over the last 16 years would suggest otherwise....
