Sod’s Law- tyre gone one 2 week old car
Discussion
Hi guys,
Need some advice. I’ve got a new A4 Avant which arrived 2 weeks ago brand new and the front drivers side tyre has got a puncture this morning which I’m pretty unhappy about.
Car isn’t on a maintenance plan but given age and the fact I’ve only done 200 miles, is it worth asking the dealer to sort (asking them to do so at no charge) or do I take it on the head that rubbish happens and get a new tyre myself

Same thing happened to me a few months ago on a brand new car. Take it to a tyre place if it can be driven (no point involving dealer). If not, the larger ones have a mobile service and will come take the tyre away and fix it if possible. Mine was repairable and cost £60 instead of a £230 replacement.

I'd be surprised if a maintenance plan covered it. Isn't that usually for service items?Need some advice. I’ve got a new A4 Avant which arrived 2 weeks ago brand new and the front drivers side tyre has got a puncture this morning which I’m pretty unhappy about.

I had a puncture on a two wheel old car back in 2017. Slung a new tyre on at Kwikfit and on a whim picked up a flyer from Continental that was some prize draw if you submitted the receipt for a tyre. Obviously you never win these things so I bunged the receipt in anyway and thought no more about it.
Couple of months later got a call from Continental marketing inviting me to a Mercedes driving day at Brooklands followed by an all expenses paid week in Spain driving flash cars around…

Coincided with my 40th birthday as well, so definitely the best 200 quid I’ve ever spent in a tyre.
Bloody hell what a result!Couple of months later got a call from Continental marketing inviting me to a Mercedes driving day at Brooklands followed by an all expenses paid week in Spain driving flash cars around…

£60 to repair a single tyre??? The going rate around here (Oxfordshire) is £15-20CheesecakeRunner said:

Great story. Couple of months later got a call from Continental marketing inviting me to a Mercedes driving day at Brooklands followed by an all expenses paid week in Spain driving flash cars around…

Must've been a "major" repair. They're more difficult and not all places do them. Anything that's within the central 60-70% of the main tread is minor/standard repair, anything outside that or on the sidewall is a major. Most places will tell you that it's not repairable and sell you a brand new tyre instead, but they can be repaired if you have the specialist skills and kit.

Exactly - It was a 'Contiseal' self-sealing one (a l lot of tyre places wont even touch them) and they came out twice - once to remove the tyre and take it back to the workshop and back again to re-fit. I was grateful to shell out only £60.00 rather than £200 plus.Friend runs tyre shop and does major repairs, that's the only reason I know.
