Insuring Track Day Cars... on the road
Discussion
Found a few threads about insuring modified cars (which these are) but not necesarily track day cars on the road.
Sounds like Admiral seem to be mod-friendly - any other people worth considering ?
Just thinking about insurance getting it from its storage to a track day and back - mostly. Not insurance on the track.

thought i heard Admiral will only cover up to 3 mods?? be very careful and check with them before issueing cover. Some insurers will exclude cover for any track day and will not cover vehicles being used for track days. plenty of stories about cars being wrecked on track and dragged 1/4 mile away to claim for damage, i remeber whne a chap wrote off an Audi R8 at Good wood and laughed as it was a hire car but the chap who owned the hire car was standing in the crowd.... wiped his smarmy smile off his face.

I insure my Clio 182 which is only used as a track car with lots of mods with Greenlight for driving to and from the track. Keith Michaels are another and there are many others.
Excellent - thanks Its actually a Clio i was thinking off - seems to be the favoured car along with an MX5 nowadays.
Anything i should be wary off apart from the normal maintenance items and cambelt/dephaser stuff ?

Not that I have experienced. Take it to a Renault specialist for those bits and you should be good. I really recommend carbon loraine RC6 pads with good fluid and braided lines with AR1 tyres and you will go all day. I have the standard wheels and ditch finders to swap back to at the end of the day and always have a spare set of standard brembo front pads just in case to get me home. Its actually a Clio i was thinking off - seems to be the favoured car along with an MX5 nowadays.

REIS Motorsport have been brilliant for me. However, the car has to be properly modified for them to quote, not just a few performance mods. Needs to be cage, buckets, harness etc.
Not used them in years since I got rid of the car but this would be my recommendation. I had insured my road rally and track car with them (it was used for navigational, 12-car and endurance rallies, so was modded but not excessively). Limited mileage on the road, and the quote was competitive + they were very easy to deal with/have a conversation with.Don't expect it to cost pennies, but in the grand scheme of things it was a reasonable price for reasonable cover without much aggro, so I would 100% go back to them as first port of call if I ever get another toy car!

Been wondering about this, my insurance is due on my Fiesta ST which is modified, engine, suspension, diff etc, going to go a bit more track orientated with it and get another car, keep that for fun/trackdays.Is your Clio just covered for to/from a booked trackday, a bit like going for an MOT in a car without an MOT to an MOT appointment ?
I expect I will just end up with normal modified insurance as I still want the option to say, go to the office in it if my other car is having work or whatever, are you covered for that kind of use or just to and from circuits ?

It may as well be as that the only time I drive it on the road! Its just insured as a 2nd car with commuting for the reason you just stated with a 3k miles a year policy. Only costs about £250 a year for the policy at 33 years old. Commuting / social only was the same price so may as well have it.Is your Clio just covered for to/from a booked trackday, a bit like going for an MOT in a car without an MOT to an MOT appointment ?
