‘Completely destroyed’: how a Halfords service left a car owner £2,000 out of pocket

ETA: While the car in this case doesn't appear to be a QF, this reminds me of a memo that got sent around Alfa dealerships a few years back, after someone put a QF into Race mode during a test drive.

Can you guess what happened?

"Halfords stood by its employee’s claim that the Alfa Romeo was being professionally driven at 25mph".

If thats professionally driven I would hate to see what one of their amateur drivers would do.

“ His hire car had a puncture, resulting in a £600 excess payment”

What!!!! I’d imagine it was a 175/75 Langling for a rental Yaris - that’s criminal

"the final police report has not been received"

I suspect it will suggest that the driver was slightly about the claimed 25 mph

He took his ‘cherished’ & ‘beloved’ Alfa to…..Halfords for service work. Wonder where he’d take it if he didn’t care.

Although in reality, this could happen absolutely anywhere.

The fact he had a puncture in the hire car causing a £600 excess asks more questions than you expect.

I once saw my car being driven by the owner of the garage apparently fitting new tyres. Road test??

I never took a car there again.

Suddenly a £9.99 puncture repair kit looks like a prudent purchase.

If you get a puncture in a hire car, better to sort it yourself normally rather than pay the excess.

Though a few weeks ago (and in theme for this thread) I returned a hire car to Hertz at Heathrow and there was a Mercedes there with the customer and an AA van/man also in attendance. The customer had called the AA to replace a tyre and during the course of doing so the Mercedes dropped of the jack (with no wheel on it) causing what looked like a fair bit of damage. Fun one to sort before catching a flight...
