Speed limiter defeat device
Discussion
so then peeps
As we probably all know from the end of next month, all new cars will come with speed limiters that you can over-ride by pressing that bit harder on the go pedal
I've little doubt this 'reckless' behaviour will be accompanied by a relentless series of bings and bongs and electronic voices saying 'caution' or 'danger ' every 4 seconds
I'm sure most will find this utterly maddening
so how to disable this 'feature' ?
surely some enterprising soul will dream up a plug in OBD port device to shut it up ?
Or does something already exist ?

I think it can be turned off still, but the real solution is to not buy a new car. As we probably all know from the end of next month, all new cars will come with speed limiters that you can over-ride by pressing that bit harder on the go pedal

Be environmentally kind and buy an older car. It's what I did, so I can now flaunt my green credentials in my 18 year old car which does have a limited but only at 155mph.
You can turn it off, but the regulation demands something like a minimum of 2 actions, so it won't be a one press button. And it will be active again on the next ignition cycle.
On some brands, it might be possible to tweak coding to make it stay off after cycling the ignition. This would be using some sort of diagnostic tool as you suggest. VW Group is most likely for this to be possible as it's currently possible with the lane assist system (i.e. change the coding so it doesn't come back on every time). Although they do seem to be locking more and more things down.
Oh and I don't think anyone is fitting limiters yet, just warnings. The regulation allows either.
This is a good summary of how the systems work:

I coded out stop start and a few other things on an Audi I had - the speed nonsense will be EU only so theoretically it should be the same easily accessible stuff that’s not mandatory for all markets.
I wouldn’t touch one of these 2024 cars unless I knew it was either a simple one or two button press to switch the bongs off on every drive, or if I knew it could be coded out permanently.

Problem is, all these cars nowadays can be updated over the air. I believe the new Yaris gr has something about this in the terms and conditions of purchase.
I’m sure I saw it posted on here somewhere.
Go to sleep one night happy as Larry, wake up the next day and you’re very expensive super quick sports (imagine a Ferrari or Lamborghini) car is as fast as a corsa and gets blown away by an old Astra. You would be very very pissed off

I plan to disable it by never buying a car that has it. If sales are killed dead perhaps they may rethink.
TX.
I’d heard of someone rejecting a 2024 Toyota because of the warning system, and the poor way it’s been implemented, if enough people do this then the manufacturers will have to do something. TX.
The speedometer isn’t that accurate and the system misreads the speed limits regularly.

Just a shame it's not more environmentally friendlyCold said:

Mine is limited to around 190mph, but it is accompanied with beeps from the rev limiter Be environmentally kind and buy an older car. It's what I did, so I can now flaunt my green credentials in my 18 year old car which does have a limited but only at 155mph.

I had a new Taycan on loan which made a silly little noise every time the speed limit was exceeded. On that car it was possible to program one of the 2 programmable buttons to turn this off. So it could be disabled with one button press rather than hunting through menus every time.
The lane departure b
ks on that car was downright dangerous though...
