This is going to sound really daft but how do actually find an old fashioned car wash in 2024, the ones you just punch a code and drive into and then panic about whether one has stopped in the correct place?
I don't seem able to find them using Google so assume they aren't called 'car washes' any more and I didn't get the memo re the rebranding?

Try any large supermarket in your area, all the big ones around me with their own petrol stations have automated car washes.
They all have hand car washes around here. The only one I know of at a nearby petrol station is in the other direction of today's travel but is also usually out of order. 
I wouldn't drive my shed through one of these, amazed people use them for nice cars.
EE hand wash is now £15 in my area, I think I have used them once in the last year or so.
I just do it myself now, at least I know it is done properly and my car won't get scratched to bits or have brick acid used on the wheels.

Generational inflation. The little b
ds charge more than I'm willing to pay for their shoddy work. On the flip side, my plan for them to follow me into a career in the City is clearly on target. The real reason for the need is that the driveway is currently a building site and I thought that on my way back from Cheltenham I'd just run it through a cheap car wash. I managed to find one in Evesham. Turned up and it was broken but had a self jet wash next to it.

All my local self serve jet washes have been commandeered by helpful gentleman who will do the washing for you. Annoying when you might just want to spend a couple of quid on a quick hose down.
I'm surprised that there isn't a UK chain of unmanned self service wash bays such that you find on the continent. Perhaps the land costs over here make it uneconomical.
