I get why this is a good thing but my situation is different.

I recent bought a car and trading in my current. All checks up until then flagged nothing, not a peep then the very moment the supplying dealer goes to settle the finance on my trade in they get a flag for NMR discrepancy.

From what i was shown this is before i even owned the car and looks like a simple fat finger (someone typed a 4 instead of a 9) - Sigh.

MOT history online is solid and consistent, HPI checks are solid (with the exception of course of the outstanding finance) and this scuppered the hand over this evening. The salesman re-assured me he's seen it all before and will take a simple phonecall tomorrow to correct the information on the NMR and mentioned that if it was an error with VOSA then it would take months. So i guess with the history checking out this should support a swift resolution and all being well i pick the car up tomorrow but i'm not convinced.

I checked out the NMR website and can only do anything if i've received a letter stating they have noticed an issue and may have launched an investigation. But the only way forward on that site is to provide a reference number that is on that letter, but no letter was sent to me and this was only discovered at point of handover.

Not a lot i can do tonight i guess, so venting a bit but it feels llike this should be something that is checked out well before any customer does a deal and certainly something that's checked before handover..

All sorted thankfully but the dealer had to sit on hold for nearly 2 hours to HPI. It will now always show on any HPI done on the car apparently unless HPI make a change.
