BMW M5 gets new M Performance Parts
Not quite sold on the way the G90 looks? BMW might have a solution....
Anyone who attended Festival of Speed this year ought to have seen the all-new BMW M5. We’ve already tried the G90 abroad in prototype format - and probably it’s fair to say that it’s better to drive than to look at. The latest version gets 727hp from its petrol-electric mashup which means it’s impressively quick, but also weighed down by a) the uninspiring styling of the current 5 Series, and b) the literal weight of the M Hybrid drive system.
A new lineup of fairly predictable BMW M Performance Parts aims to go some way toward correcting the first issue. As you might imagine, this includes a significant amount of carbon fibre, most notably in a new front splitter, front apron, flared wheel arches, side skirts, rear diffuser and rear spoiler. BMW suggests there’s a mild aerodynamic benefit to fitting some of this stuff, but rest assured it’s mostly about highlighting the ‘muscular proportions’ of the underlying body.
Of course, there is more besides. You can have M Performance decals in Frozen Black, should you wish; a carbon fibre M Performance aerial cover; an M Performance carbon fibre fuel cap; M Performance tailpipe trims (made from a titanium and carbon fibre mix; a quartet of M Performance floor mats (not made from composite); and an M Performance key case (which probably is). There are even M Performance tyre bags if you’re keen to bring that pit lane feel to your garage. Or spare bedroom.
There will also be M Performance light-alloy wheels, although these won’t be offered for the M5 till summer next year. For everything else, the manufacturer suggests it will be available from launch alongside other Original BMW Accessories. No word on the cost for any of the individual bits just yet, but if you haven’t already been put off by the M5’s £110k starting price, none of them is likely to be out of reach.
The slight upside is, I’ve got no chance of having car envy and realising the contents of my wallet on anything new-ish. I’ve found a mint F80 and plan to keep it.
That bonnet needs to be four inches lower. But, pedestrian impact and all that. I guess they didn't want to go down the explosive bolts or pedestrian air bag root as others have...

Not even seen a single one of those gopping XM 4x4 things yet (thank GOD), which given there are 5 Urus, 3 Cullinans and countless Range Rovers just on my daily dog walk is a damning statement of the lack of desirability if nothing else.

Now i realise that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but having moved from a F90 LCi M5C to a new G87 M2 in Toronto Red, i really love the looks of the new M2 & the performance & sound back up the looks as the car to me looks, feels & sounds Angry, kind of an ASBO BMW M Car.
I agree it's not beautiful, but it certainly stands out & gets considerably more positive attention than my Ultimate Edition M5C ever got & that car being twice the price.
