Hennessey Venom F5 clocks 220mph... in half a mile
Faster than a Nevera and faster than a Chiron, says Hennessey - with more to come, too
Hennessey has timed a Venom F5 Coupe at 221.92mph in a standing half-mile acceleration test, with that number recorded by VBOX telemetry. Not much more to say, really, is there? Ludicrously fast car has gone faster (again) than anyone really expected - a YouTube drag race recently got a Nevera to 206.77mph and a Chiron to 193.67mph over the same distance. So it’s not even close.
Arguably we’ve all become a bit blasé about numbers of late, but the most recent ones of the 1,842hp Venom F5 really are extraordinary. On an unprepped, dusty surface with temperature around 30 degrees, it did a quarter mile in 9.8 seconds at 169mph, and the half-mile in 14.44 seconds. It’s bonkers. The data showed that 100mph-200mph was covered in 6.81 seconds, the video showing a car that just seems to accelerate faster and faster despite the ever-increasing speed. It’s a short clip, though to see that final burst from a 178mph gearchange to just over 220mph pass by in a flash is quite something.
John Hennessey drove the Venom F5 on this run (though the 221mph was clocked by test driver David Donohue) and said of the car: “This was my first opportunity to pilot our Venom F5 beyond 200 mph while testing. I did not intend to go so fast, but I was not surprised as our hypercar’s power and acceleration cannot be described in words… I’m not aware of any other production car going that speed. We will go back to NASA later this year when it's cooler as I expect F5 to be even faster.”
Which ought to be something to look forward to. All Coupe and F5 Revolution Roadsters are sold out, with Hennessey busy building cars into ‘25, but there are ‘standard’ F5 Roadster or Revolution Coupes available to order. One way to stand out at the supercar meet…
I know most people just think it's willy waving and aren't interested these days but I'd love it if we had proper figures for all the fastest cars as opposed to some of them remaining theoretical.
It is insane watching the speed rack up so quickly and not stop when getting to 200+
The gearbox *apparently* needs to cope with 1193lb.ft, which is around 1617nm; that's basically a truck transmission requirement rather than a car one.
It's going to be big, heavy and slow.
On past performance 220mph could mean anything between 90-250mph!
