Which car did you underappreciate the first time round?

Have you ever bought a car in the past, and not gelled with it for whatever reason, but decided to revisit it years later and found it to be better than you thought?

Apparently LJK Setright said that nobody under 40 truly appreciates a luxury car, and while I have always enjoyed barges I'm really truly appreciating them now I'm... in my 40s.

I meant a specific car (e.g. Lotus Elise) that was not so good the first time you owned it, but maybe years later you decided to give it another chance and it turned out much better than you remembered. Perhaps you kicked yourself for selling it originally for not realising how good it was.

Funnily enough it was the Lotus Elise. I had a good mate buy a very early S1 when they were first launched, I really didn’t gel with it at all. Some time later and another mate bought an S2 Elise, a Toyota Engined 111S I did a couple of track days in it and generally ragged it round on the road, again not that impressed.
My lad then bought a S1 111S, oh my god I love that car, so much so that when he moved on I bought it off him and I still have it 10 years later. No idea why the first two didn’t do it for me? Maybe the set up was poor or my expectations were not right but glad I got there eventually

I double dipped a MK2 Golf GTi, I bought one brand new in 1988 and loved it to bits but then the insurance sky rocketed and let it annoy me so much I sold it.

And bought a cheap Astra as a run about for a while....hated that so in 1990 I ordered another new GTI and never did anything stupid like that again.
