Help with Car insurance
Discussion
Can anyone advise. My ex has kept me on as a named driver on his policy. It’s only when I’ve gone to get new car insurance that they tell me because I was a named driver on his policy when he had a crash it will now need to be declared for 5 years and will increase my premiums! Has anyone encountered this before?

When did you break up with your ex, or probably more importantly, when did they cease to have a legitimate reason to have you named on their policy? When did you cease to have access to (presumably) their vehicle you were a named driver on?

As previous poster said, if you were a named driver on his policy and he had an accident then there is no need for you to declare it for your own insurance (assuming he is not a named driver on your policy).
Unless the ex has claimed on their insurance saying the named driver had the accident.More info from OP needed including precisely what their "new" insurer is saying.
Sorry, reading it again the ex says they had an accident but the "new" insurer is holding that against a named driver who wasn't involved other than they were on the policy?

Yes he had the accident and reported to his insurance company but because I was still a named driver my insurance company say I have to declare this and that is stays on my record for 5 years. It shows up on the National Insurance database as a fault now! More info from OP needed including precisely what their "new" insurer is saying.

That’s not what the insurance company are staying. They say because I was a named driver it shows as a fault against my name too, it shows up on the National Insurance database! Sarahw2303146 said:

Go on to a price comparison site and read the questions very carefully. They will ask if you have had an accident/claim, or were there any claims on YOUR policy.
They are WRONG!
The other possibility, as already mentioned, is that your ex has claimed that you were the driver at the time of the accident.

Is this an insurance company direct, or is this one of the scummy brokers that frequently appear cheapest on comparison sites? Whilst your ex has been naughty keeping you on his insurance it may be easier to resolve things with some companies versus others. You will need to deal with your ex and it might come down to reporting him for insurance fraud in order to protect yourself.
Even if he's not said you had the accident, he shouldn't be keeping you on his policy.
Be very careful, if the previous insurer of the Ex's car has put the claim under your name in the CUE (Claims Underwriting Exchange) and you were not the policyholder or the driver at the time of a claim then you need to get back to them to sort out and correct and also make an offical complaint as this will effect your policy and premiums for 5 years.
Once it is on the Cue database i am not sure they can change this but you need to get on it straight away.
More info is required regard to the claim - hit whilke parked, hit tp in rear, vandalism, break in etc but not to be shared on an open forum but get hold of previous insurers.
When you obtain quotes, even if you say NO to any claims or incidents. the insurers once you go on cover will do a Cue check and it will keep coming up and the new insurers can void off a policy (worse case scenario) or ask for additional premiums
