Lease return charges

Hi guys,

My first lease has just ended and the car was picked up. Guy checked round and found no damage. Signed the form and off he went.

I was over my mileage and that charge came through today and I paid it straight away.

Thing is there was a scuff on the car so was expecting a charge for that.

Now it’s been gone for a few days and that nothing was picked up in the inspection and the mileage has been paid. Is it likely that’s it all squared?

First lease so apologies if I’m asking an obvious question

Unless the pick up driver said anything in the notes about the scuff, you should be golden.

Had a few leases in the past and the charges sphere has many different permutations.

Last car I returned, one month after it was collected, I received a demand from the collection company on behalf of the lease company saying the vehicle was damaged and they wanted £300 approx.

If they try this on, they will usually supply a photo. In my case the photo showed no damage, they were just trying it on.

If they do come back to you, just dispute it citing the fact the collection driver had no issues and his report confirms this. They will usually just give up at that point as a ‘goodwill gesture’.

Also be nice to the collection guy - last chap I had put down a honking big scrape (it had holed it!) on the bumper as a 1” scratch. £65.

I’d had a guy run up the side of a leased XC90 when it was 6 months old.

Had the approved bodyshop sort it, new trim, and even though I’m super fussy, a few bits of hand polish and it was perfect.

Fast forward 3 years, guy collecting it finds no fault, but then it gets back to BCA who run a paint thickness meter over it, suss one side is repainted, brand it a ‘substandard failed paint job’ and look for £3500.00

Settled on absolutely nothing, lease company agreed with me!
