Range Rover Sport SV now available as Edition Two
Edition One SVs were spoken for in no time - don't expect that to change for the slightly more colourful Twos...
Having allocated the entire run of Edition One cars before the announcement of the new SV, Range Rover will have known it was on to a good thing. That launch model has now been followed up by an Edition Two, adding new specifications to the 635hp flagship while aiming to keep the same plush aura. You’ll be waiting a while for any luridly coloured SVs, it seems, reflecting the move upmarket from scallywag SVR to sophisticated SV.
There are four new colourways (or ‘curations’, to use JLR speak) for the SV now available: Marl Grey Gloss, Sunrise Copper Satin, Ligurian Black and Blue Nebula Matte, the latter ‘inspired by the Northern Atlantic coast’. The brake calipers get the same treatment, the Satin Forged carbon exterior pack is standard and the SV Performance Seats are finished in Light Cloud and Ebony Windsor.
All of the Edition Twos get some kind of exterior carbon, whether Satin or Gloss, all with the 23-inch wheels as well, though a 22 is also available. The Marl Grey gets Sunrise Copper calipers with Rosewood and Ebony Windsor leather, the black one has yellow calipers with Cinder and Ebony upholstery, then copper has red calipers with all Ebony Windsor inside. A body-coloured roof is also offered.
New for the Edition 2 is a Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tyre, which adds an additional 0.1g (for 1.2g) to the maximum lateral acceleration possible with the standard all-season rubber. Best ask your local fitter about 275/40 R23 and 305/35 R23 replacements now. Those after the ultimate SV experience can get ceramic brakes and carbon wheels for the Edition Two.
Indeed, Two is very much One when it comes to the hardware - there’s no penalty for being second instead of first. So it gets the same hydraulically linked suspension with pitch and roll control, all-wheel steering, active rear diff and 635hp/553lb mild hybrid turbo V8. SV mode is there to make the most of the tech when the mood takes you, with 0-60mph in 3.6 seconds and 180mph said to be possible. Then the Body and Soul Seats can take the edge off when required.
Geraldine Ingham, Range Rover’s MD, said of the new car: “What makes Range Rover Sport SV so desirable is its unique combination of dynamic performance, modern sporting luxury design, its cutting- edge sensory technology and breadth of capability. Today we announce the next step in our SV line-up, Range Rover Sport SV Edition Two, available with new design themes which offer our discerning clients the chance to enjoy four distinct characters of our high-performance luxury SUV.” A price hasn’t been announced, though it seems likely to follow the Ed 1 at £170k. Oddly, given the SV is already out there, this one won’t be on sale until Spring next year. But anyone who wants a 635hp Sport can get one right now - with some money off, too. There are even some in colours other than black…

Back on the car, I like it. I wouldn't drop £160k on one myself, but plenty will and do - there are 4 or 5 of these in my gym car park now (only one Ed1 though), they're popular and a lot more mature and discreet (and thus desirable) than the old SVR IMO.
I have just had a new RRS Hybrid for my wife. Personally I think it is all the “subtle” RRS you need; 150mph and 0-60 in 5.5 seconds, all coupled with 5% BIK.
Perfect. I think if I was having this - and I am not- I would want people to know what it is, or am I missing the whole point.
