WTAF - I am doing the rounds of renewing my car ins. I've recently gone down 10 insurance groups from a 435d Convertible to a boring Lexus ES. So looking forward to the drop in insurance.

I do the usual comparison sites but found go.compare suspiciously cheap being nearly half of the other sites. So start checking the quote details.
Same cover, same driver details including accident on 2nd driver, same mileage, same vehicle price etc etc. ...........ah found one different 'Owned car since' was set to 06/2021 instead of 06/2024. Change that and the price fecking doubled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have 19 year NCD on two cars I own, change my main car probably every 3 years.......but never have I encountered this.

What the hell is going on!

Madness.

Was looking at cars for my wife and son.

A mini cooper sport cabrio (2022) in white or silver was £1,000 less to insure (£1,300) than a black or grey one at £2,300.

Identical specs.

Obvious colour prejudice. On the other hand, boring colours are driven by more boring drivers, or so it seems.Boring = safer. Black must be classed as a Jack the Lad colour. Amazing what actuaries can come up with. Another ploy to save could simply be to buy the Cooper. but not the ‘S’

If they have stats to say a certain car in a certain colour costs them far less in claims than the same car if a different colour, why shouldn't they reflect that in their premiums?
