Hi All, long time lurker first time poster….
My missis bought a 2019 discovery from Volvo Harrogate approx 2 years ago. At the time of sale they sold her an extended warranty.
The car developed a timing chain issue (while still under the extended warranty) and was taken back to Volvo. They mistook it for a gearbox issue and ‘reset the codes’ and sent her on her way. I knew it was a timing chain issue so took the car back to them myself to be met with “this is too much of a big job for us, we’d do it if it was a Volvo. You need to take it to a Landrover specialist”
It was at this point I learnt the extended warranty they had sold her was not with the dealer, they had taken it out with a third party firm. This was never mentioned at the point of sale.
I had the car recovered to a Landrover specialist and weeks went by whilst the warranty company argued over paying for the repair. The warranty company said the car had no service history as no services had been recorded on the records. Eventually they agreed the repair as Volvo insisted they carried out a thorough check of the vehicle before the sale. We had the car serviced at the Stoneacre Volvo Harrogate after 1 year of ownership - this wasn’t recorded on the system although I had recipts from proof it was carried out.
The car required a new engine. So after 16 weeks of it being at the Landrover specialist they have fitted a recon engine at the warranty companies expense.
They road tested the vehicle today and guess what - the new recon engine is faulty!
The garage says they will not fit another recon engine and will only fit a genuine unit from Landrover. I’m assuming at the very best we are going to be without the car for several more weeks, potentially months.
We requested a courtesy car from Volvo several times towards the start of the issue only to be refused.
I have put an official complaint in to Stoneacre Volvo from the website - no response. My wife has also complained to the branch manager and registered a complaint on the website - no reply.
The car is on finance and can’t be handed back till April next year. She rang Volvo finance to inform them of the issue and they simply told her it wasn’t there problem.
Does she have any options to hand the car back early?

Voluntary Termination once 50% of the total finance cost (total amount payable on the agreement) has been repaid - includes any deposit and payments made. I did this with a 2016 Skoda superb as had so many problems with it and Skoda UK and dealer were utter crap.
Won’t be able to voluntary terminate on a car with a blown engine, it will need to be repaired first if it’s possible at allForums | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
