What car was your 40th birthday present?

If you bought or were gifted a car for your 40th, what was it and why that particular car?

Mine was a manual Porsche Boxster S in Yellow which screamed midlife crisis but I didn't care. It was lovely to look at and be in. However after being stuck in traffic for 3 hours constantly in first gear which ruined my knee, and the harsh ride quality, I had to sell it within a year.

No car as I hit the midlife crisis out the way early, I was treated to the Montreal GP, which was a lovely weekend only topped by my 50th ( Monaco GP!)

I think I got my Integrale more or less around my 30th bday.
The 308GTS was my 35th bday pressie to myself.
The F12 was my 45th bday pressie to myself.

Was based in NL for my 40th and a car over there just wasn’t worth it. When I came back the next yr, so 41, I bought the 4C for myself.
I bought my wife a tractor for her 41st bday.

I bought a Tuscan and drove it to my 40th birthday dinner in Monaco. Don't regret them but wouldn't bother with either again.

I bought my 40th birthday present at 28! 981 Cayman S.

Unfortunately at the time I was a single bloke who had just lost his dad aged 54 made me release, a few years later I'm now married with a kid and step kid... the Porsche has long gone.

Very much doubt there will be another 40th car.

All my silly cars had come and gone by the time I was 40. By the time I got to the big four - oh, I had an SMax and 3 kids. Wouldn't change it if I had my time again. Nearly out the other end so something more indulgent may be on the cards soon

Had 2 Boxsters in my time, a 986 2.7 and a 987 S - they are brilliant cars. Loved both of them.

I didn't get anything for my 40th. But, it did get myself this thing when I turned 46 as a 'reward' for surviving a health scare.

I hope that counts?

Finances eased by the time i wa 50 so i boight myself a weekend toy a Z4

Still had an SUV though

Unfortunately, it went in part ex, got a very good deal considering it was only 5 months old.

In an ideal world I'd have both along with a detached rambling house in the country with a double/triple garage including a workshop, but I rent a small flat in London

Decided that as I'm getting on I'd better hurry up and do the things I want to do whilst I can

Loving the Alpine, I can't stop driving it or indeed looking at it out of my window.

I didn’t mark it with a car but instead by achieving something else I had always wanted to do.



I have however, after many years of not having a sporty car in my garage, vowed to get something nice before I am 50.

That is a midlife crisis!

I had 5 months old twins and a nearly 3-y-o when I turned 40. Had nothing planned but got invited to Ibiza for a weekend, so we all went. Did my last Caterham race (Spa in the wet, crashed...) a couple of weeks after we found out it was twins.

Still need a practical car and if I have time to myself use it for exercise rather than a blat. Got plans though...

I spent two years before my 40th to find the perfect watch as my 40th present to myself which I finally found and settled on 2 months before (Breitling Premier B01 Bentley edition), then three weeks before my 40th my boss told me about a 0% deal on Mustangs and a week later I'd bought one of those too! 5.0 GT coupe in orange fury.

Still own it now four years later (which is a long time for me to own a car) and thinking of turbocharging it to be different from the supercharger crowd!
