I’ve been fortunate to own a very well specced E39, but in many ways I almost prefer this: no leather (and therefore the nice velour seats), steel wheels, no air con, no cruise, no adjustable arm rest, manual gearbox. Seems the only option box ticked was metallic paint.

I had an E34 520 like that, although it did run to alloys. One of my all time favourites, but I wouldn’t do without air con now.

Id had a similar thought but these days it’s just somehow more interesting. On the continent even rear electric windows were an option on these.

With the many complaints on here about unnecessary , over complex and incomprehensible ,screens and ‘ nannying’ gadgets on many new cars ( a friend’s son says that his dads car is like “ Starship bloody Enterprise “).I’m now in the less is better camp. Merc is gorgeous, by the way.
