Your post is a mess and no one can properly understand what you're asking.

I THINK it goes something like this
- alternator died
- RAC confirmed dead
- Different RAC guy coming to fix
- OP wants him to remove the alternator so he can fix an exchange one not an outright purchase one
- Can't call the RAC to ask them this question

The RAC don’t even do this though do they? If they are unable to repair on the spot then they transport your vehicle to a garage or any other reasonable destination and you take it (organising the repairs) from there.
Has the OP encountered a moonlighting operative? If so it’s not surprising that the RAC don’t seem cooperative.
