Radical updates SR3 and SR10 for 2025

The nights are drawing in, clocks go back next month - time to get thinking about next summer's race car

Radical has revealed a host of new features for its SR3 and SR10 XXR models for the 2025 season. Focusing on personalisation (don’t want a race car that looks like everybody else’s), safety, reliability and performance, the updates aim to ‘further enhance the ownership experience of the world’s best-selling purpose-built race cars.’

We’ll start with performance, this being a motorsport product and all. The changes look modest but promise significant changes on track, including a lighter flywheel and clutch to make throttle blipping on downchanges easier - therefore reducing the risk of locking up on approach to a corner. There’s also a change in the steering ratio, from 1:43:1 to 1:71:1, which should reduce driver fatigue because less effort is required to turn. Radical has even gone so far as to adjust the radius of the sidepods on the SR10 XXR, which should reduce understeer in high-speed turns. Marginal gains then - an untouched 2024 car will still be very fast - but every little helps in the heat of battle.

On the reliability front, Radical says the new bellhousing is less prone to cracking, and the carbon front splitter can withstand more kerb clubbing than before. The inside of both Radicals gets a new carbon seat, stronger and lighter than the old GRP chair, with the option of having it on the left, right, or middle. Two seats can still be specced for those owners that like scaring their friends (or want some tuition), the second one now benefitting from stronger mounts and brackets.

The eagle-eyed might have noticed the harnesses in this sea of green - the personalisation drive now includes four colour options for the over-the-shoulder belts. Additionally buyers can get bespoke paint, colour-coded Braid wheels and liveries. This one is Daytona Green, for those interested, and has every single option box ticked to show off what’s possible for the next season. Interested racers can upgrade their SR3 XXR or SR10 XXR now, which means 2024 pricing rather than whatever it might cost next year. Nothing to beat the winter blues like getting the race car ready for spring.

Are these eligible and/or competitive for anything out the one-make Cup?

Radical seems quite successful, or at least persistent and able to continue a level of development, how exactly do they pull that off considering the narrowness of the market (given, this is true of a lot of micro-manufacturers!)

The fly in the ointment is that they are banned from most trackdays so unless you want to go racing then you’re a bit limited as to when to use them, shame.

no mention of the power either.

which probably means 'not much' and 'enough'

would love a go in one of these round a track, dunno if i'd be anywhere near its limits though. perhaps with some tuition.

are they? javelin and msv say no open wheeled cars or single seater chassis... this has closed wheels, and can have two seats, so... might be allowed?

So is a BAC Mono banned from track days then? How do the rules work?

They banned them a couple of years ago

https://radicalsportscarregistry.com/radicalforum/...

I think you can still use them at Brands and some other tracks but I’m not sure which ones.

i saw a couple at oulton park on a track day fairly recently.

i don't think they're the best track cars personally as they tend to be much faster than everything else due to the downforce, so you're being held up quite a bit and/or appearing very quickly in other people's mirrors.

thing is, if the reason for banning them from a track is that they're so fast compared to other cars, then they should also ban the new GT3 RS on the same basis. where does it end?

if you saw a couple at oulton, chances are they're also allowed at cadwell, bedford, donington and snetterton.

it might just be silverstone thats banned them.

actually i've definitely seen some radicals on a trackday at donington this year, so they definitely arent banned from donington at least.

I suspect it’s that they are so much downforce machines but aren’t that fast in a straight line that they find it hard not to overtake into and round corners, which you’re not allowed to do. Added to which many Radical drivers race and will naturally approach tracks with this mindset.

As such they’re not ideally suited to mixed track days, I guess that’s their reasoning.

a quick look at their website and it says 620kg and 232bhp for the SR3 XXR

that green must be fantastic to look at it in real life
