Private plate retention on a non-running car

Tried to search the forums but can't find anyone in this situation.
My Mum just called me to tell me her 2006 Honda CR-V has bit the dust, she said "the man at the garage said the chain snapped", which I assume is the timing chain. Repair will be worth more than the value of the car, and there's a load of other stuff wrong with it like non-functional a/c, rusty suspension bits, etc, so it's time to get rid.
It has a private plate with sentimental value as it belonged to my Dad, who I lost in 2022. We want to put it on retention, but noticed on the gov website that the vehicle must be able to move under its own power

It still has an MOT until next July and is fully taxed and insured, etc.
How can we get the plate off this car and on retention?

DVLA won't know unless you tell them.Normally, the car from which the plate is retained needs to have an MOT, which weeds out the runners & non-runners.
If your car has an in date MOT, get the plate on retention ASAP.
