Cars scrapped years ago appearing on DVLA

Something I've noticed when randomly searching old numberplates of friends and family, some of them that had been scrapped and removed from DVLA are appearing back on there.
They seem to be showing as on SORN with no details returned for the MOT section, but both are green.
The first two I tried were URM 610Y, my dads Fiesta 1.1 GL, and a good friends E21 320, VRM 999Y. Both of which were scrapped and weren't showing on the system a couple of years ago.

There's something a bit odd going on with that database.
I can find a couple of my dad's cars from the 1970s and early 1980s (the only ones I can remember the numberplates of from that long ago!) which I'm sure weren't there when I looked out of interest a few years ago.
At the same time, my old cars from the late 1990s and early 2000s which were on there a while back now come up as "Not Found".
It all seems a bit illogical. I can't see why it's worth anyone's while entering details of cars which were scrapped 40 years ago as there can't be anything useful to do with that information.

found a couple of my Dad's old cars manufactured 70 and 82. Probably some junior civil servants had a tedious job inputting data.
