I know someone who inherited one of the largest prop collections in the world. Upon sale, many made a loss against purchase price. The odd headline item did very well, but it could never be considered a sensible investment.
The companies that sell and resell them do spectacularly well from such things, but the rest of us would be demonstrably better off chucking it into a decent wealth management company.
TL;DR: Don't pretend hobbies are investments. They normally aren't. (Except MY cars, of course!
