From motorsport legends to iconic movie cars, the new year has some great additions to the catalogue

Given the myriad ways it’s possible to find automotive entertainment in 2025, from YouTube to mobile games, it’s good to see Scalextric still going strong. There really is nothing to beat the thrill of physical racing at high speed in the safety of a living room, and if you’re lucky it can be the start of a fantastic small car collection as well. For this year the Scalextric catalogue of cars is more comprehensive than ever, and it’d be rude not to share. There’s nothing to lift the January mood like some great slot car racers.

Though it’s a tired phrase, there really is something for everyone in the latest line up, from a new layout for the three-years-plus range all the way to latest sportscar racers: those that want to relive Sebring from last year can do so with a Cadillac V-Series.R and a Porsche 963, both available in more than one livery. Indeed, those with a preference for modern motorsport are spoilt for choice, with the current Ford Mustang and AMG GT3 cars available in 1:32 scale, plus the Rally1-spec Puma WRC.

But it’s the motorsport classics that have really got us excited about Scalextric’s 2025 offering, even at £50-odd a car. How about a pair of Spa 24-hour winning BMWs, an E36 and E30 complete with ‘race-weathered liveries’? Or a Colin McRae triple set, with Metro 6R4, Sierra Cossie and Impreza? There’s also a similar pack for Ken Miles - Mustang, GT40, Cobra, - Rickard Rydell’s Volvo 850 from 1994, and a host of classic racers that have become sufficiently famous at Goodwood to make it to slot model recreation, including Cortinas, Capris and Minis. 

Film and TV is covered in the latest raft of models, too, with a fresh range of Fast & Furious cars - the Supra, the RX-7, the Charger - now in 1:32. There’s even a ‘Hot Laps’ F&F set, which includes a phone app to bring a gaming edge to proceedings. Plus Captain Scarlett cars, Back to the Future and John Wick. Everyone has to like something from that lot. All the 2025 additions are available to pre-order from Scalextric now, though exact launch dates haven’t been announced yet. Best start practicing for when they do arrive. And do let us know if reality looks as good as the pics!

I got for Christmas the Hepolite Pistons BTCC Rover Vitesse, which as a scale model is good, but for Scalextric is fantastic. It's a car I tried to make my Triplex Rover in the 80's, into by using blutak for the spoilers. So 40 years later I get the "real" thing. It's just awesome to look at.

The models have come a long way since I were a lad.

This is a timely post, over Christmas I dusted off the old set (originally came with 2 x Opel Astras from German Touring Car Championship).
There is something very appealing about the scale cars because they can actually be 'driven'.
Interestingly the handling does differ from car to car, I've a very old Capri (circa 1980) and it is very tail happy..
As a big fan of BTCC I'd quite like to get the Laser Tools 330E, well done Jake on the Championship!

pic 11 is the "spectrum pursuit vehicle" from the tv series Captain scarlet. If you were a `60's kid, this could've frightened the b`jaysus out of you as it did me.
never mind that- what about the George Polley anglebox??

Maybe this is what governments need to do. Install an electrified trench in the middle of each lane, and for cars to be controlled by a hand-held unit with a trigger on. Make it like TCR so you can overtake!

No recharging worries.

Ak-tua-ally it's the Spectrum Patrol Car

The Pursuit Vehicle was the big grey boyo in which the crew faced backwards for crash protection.

Loved the TV show as a kid. I've a Dinky SPV in the loft somewhere.
