GT3 Shootout headlines Goodwood Members' Meeting
Goodwood Circuit's first event of 2025 unleashes classic GT3 cars in one-lap battles. Here's how to join the action | Promoted
It’s that time of year when we begin stuffing our empty calendars with all the car meets, shows and races we’re looking forward to over the next 12 months. And you won’t have long to wait before getting in on the action in 2025 either, as Goodwood is kicking things off with its 82nd Members’ Meeting on April 12th and 13th.
If you aren’t familiar with Goodwood’s season opener, the Members’ Meeting is a jam-packed weekend of historic racing, demonstrations and displays all taking place in and around the estate’s 2.4-mile circuit. Goodwood has already announced that this year’s event will feature an all-new Win Percy Trophy, bringing together Group 1 touring cars from 1970 to 1982, and like last year’s Revival, everything racing on track, from pre-war Grand Prix machines to Rover SD1s, will run on fully sustainable fuel without modification. That’s not all that’s new for 2025, either, as Goodwood has confirmed this year’s meeting will see its first-ever competitive GT3 shootout.
GT3 cars barrelling around a circuit at full chat is always special, but a selection of classic GTs flying around Goodwood Circuit’s fast, sweeping bends should be a sight to behold. Like the Sidecar Shootout from last year’s event, the GT3 duel will see legendary sports car drivers battle it out over two sessions across the weekend to see who can set the fastest time. Saturday morning will begin with a 20-car parade to kick the day off, before eight cars are selected to take part in a qualifying session. Each car will head out for a warm-up lap, before lining up on the grid for one timed run from a standing start. That’ll determine the running order for Sunday when, after another parade, the eight cars competing will enter into a single-lap shootout to crown the outright fastest. Sounds ace.
Naturally, these won’t be the current crop of GT3 machines you’ll find in endurance series such as Le Mans or the GT World Challenge. Oh no. They’ll be a selection of iconic GT3 cars from 2006 to 2012, arguably the starting point of the category we know and love today. While an entry list has yet to be confirmed, expect to see GT3 legends like the Aston Martin DBRS9 (V12 and all), Audi R8 LMS V10 and the thunderous Mercedes SLS AMG. BMW’s V8-powered Z4 was also a GT3 stable of this era, as was Ferrari 458 and, of course, the almighty 911 GT3R.
You’re really, really not going to want to miss this, so you better get yourself a membership to the Goodwood Road and Racing Club (or GRRC). This is the Members’ Meeting, after all, but there’s also a huge amount of perks that come with a GRRC Fellowship. Not only will you become eligible to buy Members’ Meeting tickets, you’ll earn a 10 per cent discount on Goodwood Motorsport tickets and grandstand passes for the Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard and the Goodwood Revival, and make a 10 per cent saving on purchases from the Goodwood Shop. You’ll also gain access to a host of exclusive Goodwood events such as track days, testing sessions and social gatherings. That's a brave choice for a small team to race, by the way. The Evora was never the easiest car to run in period.
Put the idea that supercars are hampered by twisty B Roads and a decent sports car reasonably well pedalled wouldn't be too far behind firmly to bed!
