First let me start by saying I love cars and have nothing against anyone who shares that passion of course.
But increasingly I’m finding myself more and more disillusioned by so called content creators. Firstly it all seems very the same - even the same roads in some cases (Joe Achilles / Harry Metcalfe).
Today I stumbled across a tik tok or insta feed from a guy named Tomi. Clearly into his cars but you’re not telling me seriously this is not about look at me rather than this is about cars.
I’m bored now by endless drag races from Mat Watson and friends (Yianni and anyone else in the club). Here’s a car that’s costs £200k that’s nice to drive and fast. Yes. We know that.
Is it just me that finds this content not only boring but verging on the vulgar really? Yet car manufacturers seem to be buying into this in droves. No wonder they are struggling financially. Seems all they are doing is giving a free ride to someone to increase their own brand. Thats honestly less likely to make me want to buy the car so no influencing there. And I don’t believe they are all now running round in Lambos as if the country is rolling in money either. We all know how hard it is to earn money especially now so a lot of it feels like smoke and mirrors to me based around these so called specialist finance companies. And surely some of these people are on huge discounts? Funny how they all seem to be going in ordering £100k cars plus suddenly. If I’ve got it wrong please enlighten me as it just doesn’t seem to add up.
I think what is clear is that the days of Top Gear and Grand Tour were great because it wasn’t about the ‘look at me’. Episodes were never filmed at people’s houses and personal cars were never a central feature ever and a broad spectrum of cars we could relate to as well as the ridiculous along the way. Like it or not it was entertainment.
I do certainly enjoy Harry Metcalfe’s posts as he clearly knows the history of the vehicles and manufacturers and it’s clear he’s a proper enthusiast. So many others now just border on repetitive showing off and showboating and I can’t be the only one that’s now finding it all exceptionally dull.
Supercars are great to look at yes but then there is the real world and it just now seems somewhat detached. As I always think whoever I see this content now - they are all pretty equally stood still in city traffic which is where most all of us live real lives. And there’s a reason the Nissan Qashqai will endlessly sell more and whilst dull as a proposition maybe it’s practical, in budget for many and does the job.
I’d like to think it’s not me getting old and grumpy. Ami alone in thinking this? Discuss.

Interestingly a lot saying they find Hammond’s newest outings boring. I’d agree with that as again it’s focused on him and as others say including his daughter. What does she know about cars? (Again forgive me if I’m wrong on that).
Just feels the content now is all too much the same and the drag races really bore me as standalone content.

How odd, complaining there is too much content; one thing you’ve got accept, there’s not going to anything along the lines of ‘TG/TGT’ no creator is going to get the kind views that make that kind of endeavor possible.
Remember, vloggers mostly self fund their content, whose going to pony up a couple of million, in the hope people like their output. ‘TG’ was beamed to that box in the corner of the room, accessed by the entire family, hence the budget.
TG/TGT was an entertainment programme, loosely based around cars, some may argue watching Clarkson/Harris slide a supercar around a track got a bit boring. However, they had the budget to create some spectacular content as well, which is mainly what the show is remembered for.
As for content, there a smorgasbord of it out there (we no longer need to wait until Sunday 20:00 hrs) possibly you need to broaden you’re search, there is a lot of content, the type of which was not available in the past, some of it very good.
Just don’t bother looking for a replica‘TG’ or you’ll be very disappointed.
