Does a lease car need to be serviced by a dealer?

Got a VW T-Cross, service alert has come up, VW Dealership quoting over £300 which seems absurd to change some oil, basically!
Anyone know if it'll be part of the contract that VW have to do it, or would it not matter? Not sure I want to call and ask in case that then commits me to doing it?

If it's in the contract you're committed to pay for it regardless of what you actually choose to do, the only difference is when you pay.soxboy said:

Every lease car I’ve had says that it must be serviced by an authorised dealer in line with schedules, and may also say that if it isn’t there may be a penalty.

True.....I have asked them to send me the contract as I can't seem to find anything related to servicing, but I guess you're right, not going to save huge money for the one time I need to service it. I do fear we're a few days late though, so that might be a fine! UTH said:

For whatever reason, i've always found main dealers in my local area (Reading) to be up to twice the price of other franchised dealers within 25 miles and never forthcoming with national offers. I've had this with BMW(Mini), VW and most recently Cupra.

It’ll be funder dependant usually, most require vat registered garage with genuine parts however Vwfs stipulate in their leases that it must be done by a main dealer, you can certainly shop around those dealers and see if anyone is doing any offers as it doesn’t have to be your local VAG dealer.
