small windscreen crack - will insurance cover it?

Had one recently, small chip, they didn't even want pics of it just referred me to the approved repairer where I was told they'd either repair or replace
I made an appointment with them, they checked the reg was covered
I thought they'd repair it, but no they just replaced it
Wasn't in swept area and wouldn't have been an MOT failure
Very simple and easy, no fuss at all

I got a chip in my windscreen in January 2011.
But the next morning it had become a crack over 6 inches long! So I called the insurer and they instructed Autoglass who fitted a new screen. I just had to pay the excess.
Can't see any reason why it would be a problem, especially at this time of year with low overnight temperatures which was probably what caused my chip to turn into a crack.

A crack is a crack. If the damage can be contained within a £1 coin it may be repairable. Depending on the position of the damage, some breaks up to a £2 coin can be repaired. trails said:
One thing you may want to consider is asking for an OE screen from the manufacturer, and rubbers depending on the age of the vehicle.
In the context of insurance and their 'approved' repairer, the policy will more than likely be restricted to what the terms and conditions are (and agreed to) before inception. This will apply especially if the insurer has an all singing and dancing TV advert. Glassman said:

Only speaking from my own experience with a grey import; National Windscreen repair were happy for me to locate a Subaru dealer that would import one from Japan, they then purchased and fitted it. No additional cost for me, but plenty of leg work to find a dealer that was willing to help out.trails said:
