how to perm turn off collision alert?
Discussion
After having my Suzuki Swift sport for 5 years I am really getting fed up of having to temporarily turn off the collision alert every time I drive it
The stupid thing goes off just when I need to concentrate on a gap that is safe to go through
So does anyone know how to premanently disable this function please?

Is it as intrusive as the Volvo system
"you're not having an accident, we shall slam the anchors on now, wave the hazards and swerve"
I don't mind it, but on the times it has happened I have been nowhere near having an accident, it did it to me in Spain car 100 yards away slowing, I start braking, guy isn't even stopping next thing, anchors on, seatbelts lock down and pull tight, swerved into the middle of the road hazards on as the car in front is now 200 yards away and driving off, I looked like a proper
everyone wondering why I had done that, two of the kids were crying as the belts hurt them, had to email Volvo and tell them they made the kids cry and ruined christmas.
Last bit a joke, but it is so aggressive, abrupt inclines it takes over, traffic calming, parked cars, but at the same time I wouldn't want it off as it has saved me once against some crazy French b
d who decided to just pull out on the a country road whilst I was tapping on, not saying I wouldn't have stopped in time, but I don't know if my control would have been the same.

I recently hired a new vw golf in northern Finland, where it was not possible to turn this system off at all (believe me I tried).
It proceeded to warn me with a warning bong every three minutes that the system had limited functionality (presumably because of the very cold temperature and darkness) and on the couple of occasions it was on ok it then trying to abruptly steer the car into what it thought was the centre of the lane (technically yes, but that would mean putting the wheels on the ice not on the tarmac tracks)

My Wife’s A Class Merc slammed the brakes on as I was mid overtake. The overtake was so safe that I was able to re-gather the lost speed and continue the overtaking manoeuvre, albeit exposed to danger for probably another 5 seconds or so……
However no surprise……..it’s mandated by the EU…….

Driving home one windy day in my Mums Jazz, and the wind picked up a pile of leaves into my path. The Jazz slammed on the anchors and hazard lights. The guy behind needed a new pair of underwear and he managed to stop 6 inches from my bumper.
This is the same car that loves to bing when the tyre pressure in one tyre increases by 0.5 psi, and the same car that has high beam assist and flashes people when you least expect it (the worst trait is a car ahead at a junction waiting to pull out - the Jazz thinks there isn't a light there, so turns on main beam, turns is off again immediately so it looks like your flashing to let someone out and you have to slam on the anchors.

I am surprised these modern 'safety' systems are so bad seemingly across lots of manufacturers.
My wife got a q4 etron. It regularly tells you to 'take over steering' The worst was when we were on the m25 doing motorway speeds, take over message keeps flashing up and then suddenly for no reason at all decides we are in a collision and stamp its own brakes as hard as possible at 70mph on a busy motorway. Thank god we didn't cause a real accident.
If you try and change lanes without indicating or you cut across any lanes the steering decides to fight your inputs and push you back to where you came from.
f
king awful. Its fortunately going back soon.

I have no problems in either my Volvo or the Wife's Enyaq. User error maybe? Try indicating My wife got a q4 etron. The Volvo system will cause an accident. I took the Mrs. XC60 out before Xmas and was approaching a roundabout with a car in front of me. Both of us eased off and were coasting just fine and I gently applied the brakes as we got closer. Out of nowhere, the car brakes violently for me and there's pings and bongs going off. I nearly had an accident in my pants more than on the road. I spoke to the Mrs. about it, and she said ah yeah, it's over sensitive and had done that to her a couple of times. It can be turned off using the convoluted infotainment screen, but you don't want to be faffing like that everytime you get in the car. Simply indicate before changing lanes (as you should). This 'disables' the lane control whilst you change lanes.anonymous said:

I was genuinely confused and didn't actually know what had happened for a couple of seconds. I was nowhere near about to collide with the car in front. I didn't slam on the brakes late or anything like that, it was just a normal slowdown in which I'd left a safe gap. I've got a 24 plate Kia Sportage as a loaner at the moment. As hopefully it's just for a few days I can't be bothered to work through the menus and it's as dull as ditchwater so I'm really not interested.
I just drive around battling the thing to go in the direction I want with a series of bongs constantly going off in the background and flashing lights on the dash that I have no idea what they're trying to tell me. I'm obviously not driving as the EU dictates but my ability to get from A to B has served me well for the last 40 years so I'm not going to change.
I really do loath the latest cars. It's all in the name of safety but the average dash is bombarding you with so much information these days how is one expected to actually concentrate on the matter in hand which is making reasonable progress safely.
I really just need my speed, my revs, how much fuel I've got and maybe a warning or something if the car's about to explode. The rest can just f
k off.

My Q7 is a prick sometimes with emergency braking on and off my driveway.
Did anyone else have a period shortly after you'd all started driving where your more d
head mates would, as passengers, randomly yank the handbrake on? This sounds an awful lot like that, but you can't tell the warning systems they've been a prick and leave them at the side of the road to make their own way home.Forums | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
