easiest way to get a car out of mud

I got one of my cars stuck in the garden and I'm debating options for getting it out of the mud.

I've got pretty much all options on the table.

What is the simplest way of getting free.

i.e. least faff.

Well I would use another car... but I hesitate as this option means getting down on the grass to attach the towing eye which I'll have to dig out of the boot.... so looking for something easier than that.

Rope round something substantial on the car and tow it free.

simplest is 4x4 and tow rope
least muddy option is a towing eye in the bumper
more muddy option is get under the car to tie the tow rope around an axle

pulled a 3.5t removal van out of the mud just before christmas - old RR didn't even notice - van popped out with ease...
will probably find someone local to you on here if you give a rough idea of where you are...

It depends how badly it is stuck, something for the wheels to grip onto like branches or sheets of wood have worked for me before in a muddy field.

I'm sure I watched a Garage 54 type video where a redneck rope system involving a tree and the driven wheels of the stuck car as a motorised pulley was used.

Failing that keep buying a load of Sheds so that you can't get any more cars stuck in that area.

It's not badly stuck. Once I realised it wasn't going to move I stopped trying.

You may me able to drive it out with some old carpet for traction or similar.

It depends on the car, how badly stuck it is, the nature of how it got stuck, access for recovery, equipment available, and willingness to damage the ground further during recovery.

I'm leaning heavily towards the idea of wrapping a bit of carpet around the wheel and just driving forward slowly.

Couple of doormts or similar under the front of the driven wheels. If you can move back a couple of inches first ( by rocking back & forth ?) you well get better grip on the mats.

If you do tow it out just make sure you attached the rope to something solid...

I've got some rubber traction mats stashed in my campervan that have been helpful a couple of times.

IIRC mine are made by milenco. I actually bought 2 sets thinking if necessary they could be rotated but I've never needed to use both sets.
