"Lumpy" tfsi -Audi A1

New member, hopefully I've posted correctly.
I love my Audi A1 1.4 tfsi but lately it runs "lumpy". Mainly around 2000 revs with a warm engine. The coils gave all been changed but no better. Garage says maybe a new timing chain but no guarantee that will fix it. The car has done 58,000 miles. Any thoughts?

If it needs a new chain you can usually measure the camshaft sensor to crankshaft angle to know if it's stretched, there's a limit for how much is permitted.

Has it been to a general garage or a specialist? Would suggest the latter if not.

A general garage. That's why I thought I'd do a wee bit of research myself. I think you are right though because I don't want to spend money finding it's no better. Thanks.

If you're not the sort of person to dig into the ECU with a diagnostics reader yourself, take it to a reputable specialist. There's any number of failures on a modern turbocharged engine which can cause a low-rev, high-load misfire.
