Anyone from insurance
Discussion
I have always been dealing with jap imports and yes they are a pain sometimes when it comes to insurance, unless they are the popular ones on the road (even with brokers). But their database (for main online insurance companies) has been growing in the last few years and I was so hoping that it covers the vehicle I want, which it does, sort of anyway,,,
I was hoping I can reach out to someone from direct line or admiral (not via their cs as they have no clue and most don’t know much about cars anyway)
Directline lists that vehicle, with that year but have wrong engine size . Mine is a 2023 model with a 2.5litre petrol engine and they list a 2.4 or 3.0 which discontinued and replaced with 2.5 and 3.5 from 2015.. so they basically want you to insure a car that never exists but void the payment should anything happens.
Admiral is just as funny, they have that year, that engine size, but hybrid only (so they won’t insure a non hybrid which is even cheaper).
Speaking with them is just as bad as speaking to British gas.
So what’s the point to have a non existent vehicle on the database but refuse to insure the ones that is legit.
Aviva- that’s another funny one. I called them and they said they can’t insure as it’s not on their database. But a broker came back and could insure it (my exact model) via aviva? How does that work?
Not a fan ringing round and spend an hour on every call telling names and history and all that hence wanting to be able to do it online but those billion pounds companies just never cease to amaze me…

Some Brokers have access to the same Insurers under what’s known as delegated authorities.
Going to a broker is more likely to see you with certainly an easier less hassle way of getting Insurance as they will search the market on your behalf.
It won’t cost you anything as they get their commission from the Insurer not you.
Obviously a Jap import may prove more restrictive but maybe start with the likes of Howdens ( previously A Plan ) or hit the search button.
Adrian Flux used to get decent reviews as a broker but not sure if that’s still the case.
