I depends on useage really.
If you are prone to wearing safety boots and hi viz to work.
Rubber mats are best.
If you are prone to wearing brogues and a suit to work
Carpets are best

I've seen lots of videos where people put those vibrating back/muscle massagers against the mat and it removes an impressive amount.

Rubber in autumn/winter, otherwise carpet. IME genuine (dealer) mats are best.

Rubber. Not sure if carpet ones would last long.

The genuine ones are expensive though.

I tried rubber mats on one car, the squeak when you had wet feet was very annoying.

They don't move on the original carpet

My first car was a MK2 Cortina in such a billy-basic spec it had no carpets just rubber flooring everywhere, so I'd choose carpet every time to avoid that feeling of austerity!

Although I can see why rubber might be a better option if you regularly visit farms, building sites, etc.
