Do you remember a rallycross comic strip from the 1970’s?

Does anyone remember a comic strip that featured in one of those weekly publications aimed at boys in the mid 1970’s? The main character was an aspiring autocross/rally cross driver, I think he drove a Mk1 Escort. He used to get in all sorts of adventures but he always made it to the race. Can’t remember the name of the comic or the character, I guess it was a tie in to the popularity of Rallycross around the same period.
