Neighbour drove into my car

While I was out (in my other car) I received a text from my neighbour to let me know he'd driven into to my car while parking and broken the front grille. My car is an 07 Audi A6 Avant. I'm sure this could go in 'the joy of running a shed', but I'm here. It gave me so much pleasure, on my return, to tell him that it doesn't matter. And thank you for telling me. Some people here (yep, I know it's a car forum) amaze me daily with their obsessiveness with their cars. Won't let anyone else ever drive them. Reluctant to let them out of their sight for an MOT ffs, won't let any one touch the glass, my neighbour sprayed his hose pipe over it without asking, calling it 'her' instead of 'it'. OK, it's not worth a lot, nor my other daily, but I can assure you all that life is much better if you can distance yourselves. I read so many threads where I'm left open mouthed at the some of the attitudes here. Lighten up. It's GREAT! (caveat; wouldn't be the same if it was a £200k car, but some of you lot treat your £200 like it was).

Your car is almost certainly a shed, yes, and it's probably healthy you don't really care, but:
- check the damage before you say it's not a problem, that "cracked grille" could be hiding a punctured radiator.
- you are welcome to care or not care about your car (as it seems to be an old A6, I feel "not care" is indeed probably advisable), but you have to understand that what grants you that latitude is that it's your car, not that it's a s
theap. Other people are allowed to care about their possessions to the degree they wish.
For my part, it depends on context.
Stonechips from actually going out and using the car? That's fine. Annoying, yes, but it happens.
Scrape because some idiot has no spatial awareness? Not fine.

Funnily enough we have a 2006 A6 - it’s the workhorse of the fleet but I like to keep it looking the best it can be despite some character features. Whilst I’m less precious about it than my 2015 A5 I’d still be miffed if someone clipped it. And indeed someone did on the edge of the grille frame - hardly visible but still annoying. This despite it now reaching 295,000 miles and having knackered parking sensors, scuffed alloys, chips and the odd paint bubble.
I wouldn't get mad if someone damaged my car, owned up to it and offered to put it right. Accidents happen. What annoys me is the attitude some people have that they can damage your property and you shouldn't care. They bash their car door into yours or scrape your bumper and if you express an objection, they treat you like you're the one who's in the wrong.

I often come back to my car usually from the supermarket and it to have new marks down the side, with it being permanently dirty, usually - you can see where someone or something has scuffed it or run down the side of it.

Love that! Something about a honest high miler that is just great.
