How to remove a flagged marker for stolen car - help please

Hello - I am in the process of selling my car but have hit a hurdle - hoping someone on here can provide some advice.
11 years ago I bought my current car, I was very quickly pulled over by the police as suspected stolen vehicle. Turns out the car I was driving was not stolen and the number plates had been cloned (from the advert) and put on a stolen vehicle in London. Police confirmed the VIN was different and I went on my way and have not had a single problem since.
11 years on I am now selling the car and after completing a HPI/vehicle check report ready to provide to prospect buyers it was flagged stolen still.
I did the check through auto trader and they have confirmed the police marker was removed 11 years ago but there is still a marker from an insurer. As you can imagine it is taking a very long time to find out who this insurer is (auto trader won't tell me) they have submitted a request via MIAFTER and I have done my own.
Can anyone recommend a way to speed this up?
Should I be waiting to for this to be sorted before selling or can I try and sell whilst being honest about the situation which I am sorting.
