how to rectify error on national mileage database
Discussion
I took my car in to a local garage for a part exchange on another vehicle and in the process they ran a check and there was a flag on the National mileage database. They looked into it and the flag was in relation to an MOT when the car failed for tires, was left at MOT center for tires to be fitted over night and then passed the MOT the next day.
the same mileage was recorded on the 2 consecutive dates which has caused the flag.
i rang the national mileage center to be told that only the dealer can raise the issue and get it resolved. the dealer is saying that's its for me to rectify which seems reasonable but how do i go about doing that?

It's National Mileage Register BTW, run by HPI

"If your car has a mileage discrepancy on the NMR, but you think it’s an error, you’ll need to submit written evidence that it’s a mistake. This could be something like your car’s service or MOT history. You’ll have to send it to HPI, who will then evaluate the evidence and change any mistakes where appropriate."]

Sounds like the two MOT records and an invoice showing that tyres were fitted at the same garage that did the MOT would be enough then. https://www.carwow.co.uk/used-cars/guides/national...

Strange thing to flag though, I would have thought this occurred quite often when a car fails its MOT and needs a part.

I don’t mean to be unhelpful but does it need correcting? It’s easily explained and the dates will show a day’s difference between MoT fail and pass.
Of course it needs correcting. The OP is trying to PX their car, and being told there's a problem.
It failed it's MoT on X mileage, was repaired within a mile, retested the next day and passed.

The OP is trying to PX the car, to be told the car is showing a discrepancy.
That needs correcting, other wise why is the dealer mentioning it?

I don't think it needs correcting - how can OP do that? He can't go back in time and demand the garage put a few miles on the car just for the sake of increasing the mileage for a retest. It's not even necessary to move a car for tyres; lots of mobile fitting outfits come to you, so the car doesn't even move a wheel.
It's a complete non-event, exacerbated by jobworths and completely unnecessary red tape. If it was me and the dealer didn't either back down or show some intelligence, I'd take my business elsewhere.

Dealer sounds like a jobsworth. It's a non-event in the real world, is explainable and shouldn't be an issue. The dealer is digging their heals in.

I think he meant correct the mileage database by showing evidence the work was done at the same place and therefore have the discrepancy flag removed (because there was no discrepancy).I don't think it needs correcting - how can OP do that? I don't buy cars with mileage discrepancies.
So I can assure you, it isn't a non event, unless the OP's car is an old banger that isn't worth much.
Going back 10 years, I used to remarket cars from an internet buying company, onto retail dealers.
If I offered retail dealers a car with a mileage discrepancy I'd get one of the following replies.
1. "Sorry, not for me"
2. "Shame about the discrepancy, come back to me if it gets sorted"
3. "Why are you wasting your time, and mine, offereing me a car with a mileage discrepany?"
So if you want to call me a jobsworth, I'll take that as a compliment.
I have a similar problem on mine. Mileage goes from 45,807 to 5,111 then to 56,395.
DVLA have advised the only option is to provide an invoice from a garage on the same day as the MOT, with the correct mileage on it.
I’ve contacted the dealer who did the job and they won’t deal with me at all because it’s not my name on the invoice.
