Roof baskets

Anyone got these?

There seem to be two types.
Those that go into the drainage channels and you need to remove the rails

Those that slot onto roof bars.

The latter seem to be a lot cheaper

Any recommendations? Its for a shogun pls ta

I was thinking of one of the ARB roof racks but they have a four month lead time and cost a lot of money, so looking for something else now. Maybe roof racks and one of the cheaper baskets

Perhaps fit roof bars to the roof rails on the car, and then pop one of these on top. The maximum weight limit is a few kgs under the total capacity of the car, but accounting for the weight of the basket itself, this does not result in any real loss. Plus it can be taken off easily and popped into the shed when not used.

Why a basket rather than rails +/- a roof box?

(I ask because I considered one but couldn't see a use case. There are a few other decent manufacturers of platforms but anything sensibly priced looks like cheap junk.)

There was another PHer on here who gave a good case for having a roof basket. A roof box is never secure, although it hides your belongings, it is also bulky, sometimes too tall, not aero efficient if left on the car all the time etc. With his roof basket, he just throws things on and straps it down, and you can transport bigger items that wouldn't fit into a roof box.

How do you secure stuff placed on the basket? I have a roof box. It's lockable to the bars and the opening has locks. There is never any real valuables in there. A roof basket is largely the same size as a roofbox and I'd guess heavier. A roofbox is more aero efficient than a basket. Literally takes me 2 mins to fit or remove mine.
