Is that an MR2 made from a 355, which would be “unique”? Or the awful “355” made from an unhappy MR2?

The awful one I guess. But I dont have £90k for a real one. Some look awful, but some look fantastic

rather get a kitcar, in the flesh they don't. the 406 came close, but pointless really.

A mid engined, v8 kitcar is the way forward.

Real car enthusiasts would probably be able to tell the difference, but you'd get to feel like you have a Ferrari with MR2 costs, win win!

I understand some people enjoy building a replica’s/reinterpretation, some to a very high standard. I also get people like to drive something different, possibly something akin to their dream car.

But the only people you are fooling is yourself; those who think it’s a Ferrari, they’re not people who are interested cars, why are you trying to impress them, you’re not going to be in for a scintillating conversation.

I can buy a copy of Jackson Pollock’s, ‘Blue Poles’ and hang above my ‘Gary glitter’ it doesn’t make any wiser about his work or art in general; a picture of a JDM Toyota MR2 MKI would be more appropriate for my privy.

If you want to build one, go ahead, just leave it sans Ferrari insignia or badge it as an MR2. If you do a good job, I’m sure a lot of people car enthusiast included, will comment favourably on your efforts.

Personally I’d rather have an MR2, but each to their own!

Having owned a 355 I just don’t see the appeal of a fake MR2 one. A large chunk of the enjoyment is the engine and the noise (with a suitable exhaust). On top of that the fakes never look right (unsurprisingly).

Some people obviously do want them otherwise they wouldn’t exist. Each to their own.

That's running some significant rear spacers.

Oh dont get me wrong, I'd much rather have a real one! But I have 4 kids to feed biggrin

If I did spend that kind of money on a car, the costs wouldnt end there - insurance, parts...

What, therefore, are you trying to achieve?

People who know cars, know it's a fake.

The replicas only impress kids or non car people.

Hey, if you wanna impress kids, that's up to you.....

These days i think people would be more impressed by a rust-free unmolested MK2 MR2 or one with a quality period kit and supporting mods.

Spending Fakerarri kit money on a TRD2000GT kit would make more sense to me.

This is the fundamental question, I think.

What is it that you're looking to have, and why?

It doesn't have to add up for the rest of us, but a really in-depth think about what end result you're after seems wise.

Also, bear in mind, while a lot cheaper than a real 355, it's still going to involve quite a commitment of time and money to build an MR2 based lookalike to a decent standard.

Apart from the body panel fit never being great, the interiors / dash looking shocking and the exhaust sound... Its always the comedy wheel offset that really lets the mr2 reps down!

A nice MR2 would be a far better option IMO.
