2011 Tiguan 1.4TSi Bluemotion Tec
Discussion
Hi
I recently bought a manual car like this and the fuel consumption seems particularly poor.
Today driving at an indicated 70 in 6th gear on a flat piece of motorway the instant readout shows 35/36 mpg with the engine turning over at around 2200 rpm.
That seems low to me as I would have expected say 45mpg??
In town it can be around 18/22 mpg, admittedly in London....
The car has a rebuilt engine so don't know if it will loosen up as it's only 1000 miles since the rebuild.
Can anyone shed any light if these figs are more or less correct?
Thank you.

Where would you have exepcted 45mpg from? It's a 15-year old turbocharged petrol engine, it's not going to be incredibly economical in real-life terms. I recently bought a manual car like this and the fuel consumption seems particularly poor.

Our friend AI is useful here: For a 2011 Tiguan 1.4 TSI, expect real-world motorway MPG in the late 30s to low 40s (UK MPG), with some owners achieving closer to 40 MPG on steady runs, though official figures and varied driving styles can range from the mid-30s to over 40 MPG, depending on whether it's the standard or BlueMotion Technology model and if it's 2WD or 4MOTION.
TL:DR; that's about right.
