I've seen a few mentions of this on social media and YouTube, did a search here but it looks like it's not been mentioned.

If they're targeting the Bentayga and Range Rover, the interior doesn't really cut it IMO.

Probably take sales from the slightly odd but excellent performing X7.

I think the Q9 is essentially the A8 replacement, aimed squarely at the US full size SUV segment. GLS, X7, FFRR, Escalade, Wagoneer, Navigator, LX, etc.

As a serial Audi abuser with a thing for SUVs I wanted to want one but yeah, I think they've whiffed a bit on the interior. I'm not a huge fan of their design in general lately and some of the material choices are odd to me.
The seats look lovely, but the dash and console are just so generic, dull, and boring. Seems more premium Hyundai than bona fide luxury SUV, but I'll reserve final judgement until I see one.

It's essentially going to be a larger Q7 with the same interior.

But diesel only? Surely the Q9 won't be diesel only? Surely they'll pop a petrol engine in at some point.

Diesel only means myself and I'm sure many other prospective buyers won't bother.

Interior is perfectly nice but its not shouting Bentayga/Range Rover competitor.
