Wondering if anyone has had a problem when paying for car parking at a machine with a 2x2 number plate. Just had a PCN from Keswick ( but have had problems in Wales and France)

Thought I’d done all the right things at the machine -got a ticket and displayed as required.
The ticket appears to have only the 2 letters but not the two numbers before the letters.

I always keep parking tickets for 3 months in case something like this happens.
Has anyone else had similar?

I have appealed- though finding the form on their website was a challenge. Cumbria parking services if you are interested. The usual wording that if you lose the appeal you cannot have the lesser payment etc.

It only seems to happen with the car with this plate reg format.

Is there a solution to prevent it?

It sounds like you've paid for pay & display parking but still received a PCN, so your challenge should be easy enough, particularly if you've still got the P&D ticket as proof of payment.

BTW, my car has a 1 x 3 number plate, and I've never had problems with P&D machines because of it.

I did wonder if it was because the machine does not like it when you put numbers in first before any letters as normal plates (though no problem it seems with your plate) it is usually letters first.

If the P&D machine is not smart enough to accept non standard number plates, then that should not be justification for the council to issue a PCN. i would challenge it all the way, particularly as you've paid and done nothing wrong.

I always get this when I travel for business and park at Heathrow.

My plate is NNNN XX

ANPR lets me in OK, then on exit it reads the plate as NN XX every single time.

So same cameras (I assume) same tech, but why does 1 work and the other not ??

IIRC ANPR doesn't do much on entry, just takes a pic & loads it into software, then when you come to pay is when you are having the issue when it tries to find the entry.

No matter what format the plate it will let you in.

I had this before at a CP and it did not recognise that my plate (spaced correctly etc) was XX11XXX, it only saw 1 x number 1, but it did suggest the one with 1 x number 1, which I paid for as the time was correct and just made sure I took a pic of the machine display, my plate & kept the ticket.
