Insurance question
Discussion
So I am 57 and have 13 years NCB. Just got a new car and have gone and scraped the rear quarter on a bloody bollard. Pissed doesn't cover it.
The damage looks small but I've had a couple of quotes - chips away at 750 or a local trusted body shop reckon 900
my excess for a claim is high at 700 but I'd get a courtesy car.
I have protected NCB on the policy. current cost is 450 a year - does anyone know how much my premium is likely to rise as a result of a claim like this if I did go down that route?

If you claim and use chips away you will get a payment of £50.00 from the insurer.
If you use the bodyshop you will get £200.00
why on earth would you consider making a claim?
And unless it's already been factored in, many insurance companies charge an even higher excess to be able to use your own preferred bodyshop, instead wanting you to use their bodyshops which from recent experience with Solus bodyshop via Aviva want to do everything as quickly and cheaply as possible. If you use the bodyshop you will get £200.00

Although I usually don't understand why people seem terrified to use their insurance for - literally - what they paid for, in this case I'm with the other posters. Why would you for such a small difference?
When I claimed on my insurance (for a tad more!) with protected no claims my premium didn't change. But that probably depends on the insurer
